Frequently Asked Questions

Question -Which program is for me?

Answer - The answer lies within your own life. If you are just out of school, have few family and job requirements, live out of state, or have the time to invest for a rapid career change, the full time programs are for you.

If you live within driving distance, have a few days a week to train, and have family and job obligations, the part time programs are the best option. Obviously it takes longer. The timeframe directly reflects the amount of time you have to study with us.

Question - I'm already a professional trainer and want to do the Three Week Remote Collar course. I can't leave my business for three weeks straight. What can I do?

Answer - Obviously the best way to complete the course is to stay for three straight weeks. If you can't and live out of state, it can be broken up into two segments. If you live near us, we can still do the apprenticeship style training with this course.

Question - I have, or want to start a training company in the same area as Best Friend's Dog Training. Is this a conflict for your school?

Answer - Great question. This is absolutely not a problem for us. The metro NY area has close to 15 million people in it. One training company can't train them all by themselves. We promise to teach you to compete against the best. The more "Quality Trainers" there are, the better it is for our industry as a whole. The biggest problem BFDT has faced through the years is convincing people that their previous poor experience with a trainer isn't a reflection on trainers as a whole. Our commitment to excellence, and customer service through the years will be passed on to you. We don't care if you live accross the country or in the same town as us. There is enough business for everyone.

It is important to know nothing is hidden from students. Students in both programs ride along on evaluations where we sell trainings. You'll watch, teach and help with private lessons and group class. You'll train board and trains start to finish, and take them home with a trainer to teach their family what we taught the dogs. In other words, you'll get to experience first hand the day in the life of a trainer. In fact, you'll experience it every day until you can do it well.

Question - How much class room time is there.

Answer - Although we have some classroom time, over 80% of what you do will be hands on in the 12 week program. In the three week course, there is almost no class time except for learning the non physical marketing ideas.
